Elder Ted E. Brewerton, Emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while serving in numerous capacities in Church leadership positions in Latin America, collected dozens of old books and ancient texts written by the early Catholic padres shortly after the conquest of Latin America by Spain. These texts state many times over how astonished the priests were when they discovered the basics of Christianity among the natives of the New World. Elder Brewerton gave a series of presentations to the annual conferences of the Book of Mormon Archaeological Forum from 2003 until 2007. These presentations have been transcribed and put into this book by the able compilation of Emily Ann Sanderson, assisted by Dr. Stephen L. Carr. Following are the subject chapter headings:
The Catholic Chroniclers and the Book of Mormon
Archaeological Scholars Support 3 Nephi without Knowing Its Content
Giants and How They Relate to the Olmec and Jaredite Cultures of the Same Period
Serpent Symbolism and Its Relationship to the Book of Mormon
Also included is a list of the old texts from which Elder Brewerton took much of his material.
This book summarizes most of the known ideas of the original Quetzalcoatl and other aspects of early Christianity among the natives of much of the New World. The Latin people of the Americas hold a special place in Elder and Sister Brewerton’s hearts; and readers can feel this as well as taking advantage of the wealth of information that Elder Brewerton has regarding these subjects.
